Out of favour Super Eagles midfielder Nosa Igiebor was left stunned and speechless by his team Maccabi Tel Aviv’s dramatic qualification for the group stage of the UEFA champions league, after a 1-1 draw against FC Basle saw them progress on the away goal rule on a 3-3 aggregate score.
Igiebor, replaced 20 minutes before the end of the game by Dor Peretz, said shortly after the game that words can’t express his joy at securing qualification for the group phase of the UEFA champion’s league.
“I don’t know what to say, I’m speechless, this is like a dream come true for me,” he said after the game.
However, the two other Nigerians in the group stage of the UEFA champions league crashed out with Efe Ambrose benched in Celtic 2-0 loss to Malmo in Sweden, which saw them crash out on a 4-3 aggregate for the second year, while Elderson Echiejile was on for over an hour, but helpless in saving Monaco who lost out on a 4-3 loss to Valencia.
Peter Olayinka also failed to make history with Albania side Skenderbeu, coming on in the 68 minutes in their 4-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia to lose on a 6-2 aggregate score line.
